Matthew Bolar was killed in Iraq while serving his country May 13, 2007, by an explosive device. He was killed while trying to save one of his buddies and was awarded a Bronze Star after his death.
Matthew enlisted in 2004 and trained in four different camps learning to be both a paratrooper and a medic. He volunteered for his second tour of duty in Iraq.
Memorial services for Matthew were held both in Montgomery, Ala., and in Arlington National Cemetery where he was buried.
Matthew was the son of Ruth Anne Adtkins of Montgomery and Gordon Bolar of Kalamazoo, Mich. His step-father is Vernon Adkins and his is sister, Emma Adkins.
Matthew Bolar's grandparents are Mrs. Bolar of Louisiana, Ruth Thompson Spray and Doctor and Irene Thompson of Ozark Acres. He is survived by many friends and family who mourn his passing.
