Mary Lavaughn King Norris of Salem, daughter of the late Harry Lee and Harriet Jane (Milligan) Shatsar, was born March 24, 1922, in Alicia, Ark. She died March 23, 2006, at the age of 83.
She married Marcus King Oct. 12, 1938, at Rings Chapel, Ark., and later married Otho Norris in November 1978, at Salem. She was a member of Salem First Baptist Church, Order of Eastern Star, Salem Lodge 521, and Sorosis Club. She was Business Person of the Year in 1993 and taught Sunday school for many years.
She is survived by one son, Jerry King and wife, Kathy, of Swifton, Ark.; one daughter, Joan Cochran and husband, Wes, of Salem; five grandchildren, Lenisa Grass, James Mark Cochran, Candy Wray, Julie Keton and Brian King; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by both husbands; her parents; two infant daughters, Linda Joy King and Barbara Ann King; one sister, Lois Halcom; and two brothers, Ludy Shatsar and Lonnie Shatsar.
Funeral services were held March 25 at Salem First Baptist Church, with Bro. John Hodges officiating. Interment followed in Lebanon Cemetery at Nelsonville, Ark., under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
Pallbearers were her grandsons and great-grandsons.
Memorials are preferred to Salem First Baptist Church.
