Guns found in wooded area

Thursday, October 26, 2006

Jason T. Woods, 36, of Melbourne was arrested and charged with residential burglary and theft of property Oct. 17 as a result of an investigation conducted by Izard County authorities, according to Izard County Sheriff Tate Lawrence.

The investigation began the morning of Oct. 16 after Deputy Charley Melton was called to the home of Melbourne residents Terry and Susan Smith for a possible burglary.

Chief Deputy Earnie Blackley and investigator James Humphrey determined that the home had been burglarized, located the suspect's place of entry and took an inventory of missing items that included guns, jewelry, cameras and some cash.

When Woods was arrested the following day, he took authorities to a wooded area behind his residence where authorities recovered a number of the Smiths' stolen items.

Woods was charged with his second incident of both residential burglary and theft of property within Izard County.

Found: These guns are a portion of the stolen property recovered by Izard County authorities at Jason Woods' residence on Oct. 17.
Woods has a lengthy criminal history and was out on bond awaiting court for his first charges when this second theft occurred, according to Lawrence.

Because of his repeated offenses, Judge Tim Weaver revoked Woods' previous bond. He remains in the Izard County Detention Facility while the investigation continues.
