Clary purchases funeral home

Thursday, December 6, 2007

THAYER -- Tom Clary, owner of Clary Funeral Homes announced last week that he has purchased the Carr-Montgomery Funeral Home in Thayer.

"We are currently remodeling and refurbishing the building and grounds," Clary said. He said the businesses should be open in the next couple of weeks.

Clary now owns three funeral homes, one at Alton, Mammoth Spring and now Thayer.

Tom's parents, J.Q. and Nancy Clary established the Clary Funeral Home at Alton in 1948.

In the mid-1990s Tom and J.Q. opened the Clary Funeral Home at Mammoth Spring.

Tom's sons, Robert and Jonathan, joined him in the family business.

"As we have the past 60 years we will give full credit on most burial polices, regardless of which funeral home it is associated with. If a family has coverage under a Leo Carr or Carr-Montgomery policy, Clary Funeral Home will do its best to honor that arrangement," Clary said.

The business was purchased from Ron Montgomery.

Montgomery said his parents, Rev. O.M. and Opal Montgomery bought the business in 1975 from the estate of Leo Carr. Carr had opened the business in September of 1963 at its present location, 315 South Sixth Street.

Montgomery said he is retiring and has been doing some remodeling on a house on Fifth Street in Thayer and will be moving into it in the near future.
