Commission to discuss reopening the Narrows

Thursday, August 16, 2007

OREGON COUNTY -- In the near future the Oregon County Commission will meet with Mark Twain National Forest Ranger Tim Bond and District Ranger Ronnie Raum to discuss re-opening the Narrows for the public.

The Narrows is a river access located north of Myrtle just off Highway 142 East on the Eleven Point River.

"The residents of the county need to have a better access to this portion of the river and be able to better enjoy this beautiful area," Oregon County Presiding Commissioner Leo Warren said. Northern District Commissioner Buddy Wright and Southern District Commissioner John Wrenfrow, who serves that portion of the county both said they would like to see this changed.

In other news from the Oregon County Courthouse, Warren said the tuckpointing project that has been underway at the courthouse this spring and summer is about complete.

"They will be taking up the steps on the north side of the courthouse and relay them over a new bed and regrout them," he said. The presiding commissioner also said a new office is being constructed on the third floor of the courthouse that will be utilized by the sheriff's office.

"The circuit clerk's office will be moved into the existing sheriff's office after some remodeling and the juvenile office will be moved to the second floor for more space and safety," Warren said.

Commissioners Wrenfrow and Wright have had their crews busy this summer replacing tin horns and culverts on county roads. The crews have also been replacing low water crossings, hauling dirt and building some roads and general maintenance.
