Finding a simpler way of life

Thursday, August 16, 2007

She never really intended to write the news; it just kind of fell in her lap, said Linda Pool, the Morriston community correspondent. "But there was no one to do it, and I?love messing around on the computer. So it just happened," she said.

In 1990 after living in California for 32 years where Pool raised goats, and her husband Albert worked with sheet metal, Pool said they retired and decided they needed a simpler way of life. So the couple packed up, headed east and landed in Morriston. "Albert and I have never regretted coming here; we truly love it," she said.

Pool said she's happy to have something to keep her busy. "Most of my time is spent baby-sitting grandchildren's kids. This gives me something to do when I'm not busy with that," she said.

In addition to keeping track of the Morriston news and baby-sitting her great-grandchildren, Pool is active in her church where she is responsible for putting together weekly church bulletins.

Pool is also an avid singer. She said she produced a gospel CD about four years ago. "I love to sing at church, and I'm proud of that," she said.

Pool also said she enjoys the occasional "girl's night out."

"We have girls nights when (my friends and I) all get together," she said.

Pool said, during one particular trip to Branson, she was pulled on stage with Yakov Smirnoff, and she got the chance to shine. "I can be kind of silly, and I think I did pretty good," she said. "He had trouble going through his routine for laughing so much."

When Pool's not stealing the spotlight from major comedians, she's at home with her family keeping track of the news.

"I enjoy doing it. It's good to know I'm helping in some way," Pool said.
