Phillip Elmore Hynson, 87, of Winter Haven, Fla., died April 23, 2007, of heart failure at the Winter Haven Hospital. Born in Mammoth Spring, Ark., in 1920, he was of the Episcopal faith. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a bomber pilot of B-24s. He completed 53 missions over Germany and was awarded three Bronze Stars. In 1960, he and his family moved to Winter Haven where he became a civilian flight instructor at Bartow Air Force Base until it closed.
Survivors include: his wife Bette; a daughter, Rebecca of Lake Wales; one sister, Elizabeth Moore of Shallotte, N.C.; three nieces; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his son, Phillip Holt Hynson.
A private memorial service was held at Riverside Cemetery in Mammoth Spring Arrangements were by Steele's Family Funeral Service in Winter Haven, Fla.
