Show-Me Championship ready to roll

Thursday, July 26, 2007

The 15th annual Dirt Works Race Car Sponsored Modified Show-Me Championship is set to begin on Aug. 2 with the first round of qualifying action for the annual event hosted at West Plains Motor Speedway.

The winner of this event will pocket a hefty $6,500, while the start money is $650.

Last year's big winner was Peyton Taylor of Batesville, who started in fifth position before working his way through the front runners to take the lead position by lap 16 of the 40-lap feature.

Last year 49 modified drivers representing six states were on hand at WPMS for this annual event.

The program will include a three-night qualifiying format beginning on Aug. 2 and continuing Aug. 4.

Each night the modified cars will run heats and a nightly qualifying feature where eight will transfer to the championship event on Saturday.

Support classes on Aug. 2 will be the Hobby Stock and Youth Hobby Stock.

The same modified format on Aug. 3 will provide eight more cars and drivers to the Saturday feature, and the support class will be the Cruisers running their weekly points program.

Round three on Aug. 4 will produce the last eight cars to advance to the feature field.

The 25th, and final starting spot, will be reserved for the highest points driver from the weekly race program who has not already qualified for the championship event. Support class will be the Super Stock.

Total purse for this event will exceed $40,000, so a good field of regional drivers should be on hand to race for the top prize.

Camping space is offered on site free of charge with showers and restrooms, but no electric hookups are available.

Gates will open each night at 6 p.m., with hotlaps set for 7:30 p.m. and racing at 8 p.m.

Admission is $8 for adults on Thursday and Friday nights, with admission for kids age 7-11 set at $2, and those 6 and under are free.

Saturday night admission is $12 for adults, $4 for kids age 7-11.

Pit passes are $25 on Thursday and Friday, and $30 on Saturday night.
