Not letting up any after notching their fifth straight conference title, the Salem Lady Greyhounds once again claimed top honors in the district tournament, winning the championship with a 3-1 victory over Flippin April 23 at Millbrook Sports Complex in Harrison.
It was the Lady Bobcats who got on the scoreboard first, breaking open what had been a scoreless first three innings with a run in the top of the fourth. Ashley Trivitt stole home, taking advantage of a Salem error, giving Flippin a 1-0 lead.
Salem (18-3) wasted no time in squaring things, as Leslie Taylor came home via a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the fourth.
The Lady Hounds moved on top for good by plating two runs in the home half of the fifth.
Laci Long drove in two of Salem's three runs in the championship game.
Taylor earned the win for the Lady Greyhounds, tossing a no-hitter and striking out 10 Flippin batters along the way to victory.
In the semi-final round, Salem topped Bergman 4-3 behind a 16-strikeout effort from Taylor. She gave up just two hits and one walk for the game.
Not slowing down one bit, Salem earned a spot in the state tournament by blanking Harrisburg 9-0 in opening action from the 3A Region 3 Tournament April 28 in Harrison.
The Lady Hounds scored six times in the first two frames to put the Lady Hornets on ice.
Taylor tossed seven innings of one-hit ball, racking up 12 strikeouts for the game. At the plate, she recorded two RBIs on a pair of hits.
Long posted a three-for-four day at the dish, driving in two runs, as well.
Terra Kinder brought three runs in for Salem.
