Two-vehicle wreck on PP Highway

KOSHKONONG -- A Koshkonong teenager has died as a result of injuries he suffered in an accident May 1 on PP Highway.

Missouri State Trooper J.C. Howell reported that Richard Gatewood, 17, was driving a 2004 Dodge Neon when he ran off the left side of the road, over corrected and re-entered the road striking a northbound 1994 Oldsmobile driven by Chad Horton, 33, of Thayer.

Gatewood was taken by ambulance to Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains where he was pronounced dead.

A passenger in the Gatewood vehicle, Matthew Ehrlich, 20, also of Koshkonong suffered moderate injuries in the accident. He was also taken to OMC where he was treated for his injuries.

There is no report if Horton suffered any injuries in the accident.

A moment of silence was observed May 2 at Koshkonong School where Gatewood was a junior.

Troop G reports this is the 17th fatality in the nine-county Troop G area this year.

A memorial fund has been established at the West Plains Bank and Trust Company, North Branch on Porter Wagoner Boulevard in West Plains.

A family spokesperson said all contributions would be appreciated. She said the fund was established to help with funeral costs.

Gatewood is the son of Russ Gatewood and Rhonda Gatewood.
