Robert Emil Simmons, died Dec. 26, 2006, at Marion Veterans Hospital in Marion, Ill., at the age of 79.
He was born Nov. 1, 1927, the son of Ocea Simmons and Almeda Johnson Simmons in Alton.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, proudly serving his country in the Korean Conflict.
He was a butcher and owned and operated Alton Ice and Locker Plant for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Jeff Simmons and wife Kelly of Peace Valley, Mo., and Wes Simmons and wife Thera of Alton; five grandchildren, Jennipher Lawing and husband Chase of West Plains, Marissa Simmons, T.J. Simmons and Dakota Simmons, all of Peace Valley and Gabrielle Simmons of Alton; two great-grandchildren, Adrian Lawing and Hunter Lawing of West Plains; three brothers, Roscoe Simmons of Alton, Larry Simmons of Alton and Gilbert Simmons of Pomona, Mo.; several nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Faye Eunice Simmons; one son, Michael Dennis Simmons; one brother, Danny Simmons; and three sisters, Mary Ellen Wainscott, Rita Simmons and Glenda Simmons.
Funeral services were held Dec. 29 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Bro. Bill Bales officiating. Burial followed in Bailey Chapel Cemetery in Alton with arrangements by Carter Funeral Home of Thayer
