Eugene Ernest Rice, died Dec. 31, 2006, in Salem, Ark., at the age of 77. Eugene Rice was born on July 17, 1929, in Akron, Ohio, the son of Ernest Dewey Rice and Dolores Butler Rice.
He was united in marriage on Dec. 31, 1961, in San Luis Obispo, Calif., to Joyce Snyder who precceded him in death Aug. 14, 2005.
He served in the United States Army retiring as chief warrant officer after 20 years of service.
He was a Mason, and shriner, a member of the American Legion Post 344 and a member of the VFW Post 7831.
He is survived by two sons, Timothy Rice and wife Penny of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Ronnie Rice of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Karen Kalvar and husband Kent of Grand Junction, Colo.; two sisters, Verna Berndt and Marilyn Dawson both of Cailfornia; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce and two brothers, Charley and Jimmy Rice.
The funeral services were held Jan. 5 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Bro. Brandon Morris officiating. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery in Mammoth Spring with arrangements by Carter Funeral Home of Thayer
Pallbearers were Eric Fox, Michell Holmes, Buddy Holmes, Robert McCanahan, John Phillips and Tim Rice.
