Though the work for the Fulton County Hospital's 18,397-square-foot expansion did not begin in December as anticipated, plans are still on, according to hospital administrator Frank Wise.
In September Sens. Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and Congressman Marion Berry announced that the hospital had received approval for a $3.4 million USDA community facility loan.
This money, which will be used for new emergency, surgery, imaging and laboratory departments, as well as an improved main entrance and dining area, was expected to be made available in December.
Now that date has been pushed back to late January or early February, Wise said at the Dec. 28 hospital board meeting.
Wise said he met with people from the USDA in early December, and all the necessary documents had received final approval.
"I talked with the contractor this week. We have all our bids in; they are all under estimate," Wise said. "We're just waiting on the funds -- that's where we are right now."
