Wreck sends man to Memphis

Thursday, March 1, 2007

A Hardy man was transported to a Memphis hospital by helicopter after a one-vehicle crash on Highway 63 Feb. 21.

Rick Lee Wells, 50, was driving a 1990 Sunbird north on Highway 63, 8.2 miles south of Mammoth Spring, around 2:25 p.m. when he lost control of the car in a curve, said Arkansas State Police Cpl. Ronnie Stewart. Wells overcorrected causing the car to spin 180 degrees and travel into the southbound lane, he said. The car then slid sideways off the east side of the highway and overturned three times and ejected Wells before it landed on its top in a ditch, he said.

Wells was transported by helicopter to The Med in Memphis, Stewart said.

Fulton County Ambulance Service, Mammoth Spring Fire Department and first responders assisted at the scene.

Charges are pending, Stewart said.
