Ranetta Ray has been hired as the license fee agent for the Thayer area.
"We do not have a definite opening date yet," Ray said Dec. 14.
The office is located at 151 East Walnut Street in Thayer where the TEK Shop was located.
"I am waiting for the state to bring the inventory and equipment for the office," Ray said. She said that will consist of the office computer system, driver's license machine, license plates and other material needed to get the office up and running.
She said the office will be open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. "In the beginning I will be closed from 1 to 2 p.m. for lunch, but in the near future I hope to be able to have the office open all day," she said.
She said the office will also be open from 9 a.m. to noon the second and last Saturday of each month.
She said the office will be capable of doing all the things any other license bureau office does.
"We will be issuing drivers licenses, state IDs, registering motor vehicles and water craft, issuing disabled permits and temporary permits for vehicles recently purchased," Ray said.
Ray said she is familiar with the office. "I have worked the last 19 months in the West Plains License Bureau office," she said.
"I am glad the state chose to let this office remain in the Thayer area. Thayer residents and others in the southern portion of the county would have to drive in some instances up to 20 miles to take care of the license business if it were not for this office," Ray said.
She added that losing the office would be a burden to the elderly as well as others.
She said the office will keep the same phone number, 417-264-3001.
The office has been closed since Oct. 31, due to the retirement of Gletta Clark.
