A Fulton County man was arrested and charged with rape after he provided authorities with a written confession Jan. 12.
In his statement 41-year-old Ronald Schumaker of Camp admitted to engaging in sexual activities with a minor female at the child's residence while she was left in his care Nov. 28.
Arkansas State Police Special Agent Becky Vacco said she spoke with the 5-year-old alleged victim Dec. 4.
In the interview the child described sex acts Schumaker allegedly performed on her.
After talking with the child, Vacco said she spoke with the alleged victim's mother. The child's mother told Vacco there was only one time her daughter had been left alone with Schumaker. She said she left the child in Schumaker's supervision for approximately three hours Nov. 28, according to Vacco.
Jan. 12 Schumaker gave authorities a written confession that described the incident.
"I Ronnie Schumaker want to apologize to (alleged victim) for what I have done to her by (forcing her into sexual activities). I'm very sorry for this, and I want help ... (I also) want (alleged victim) to get the help she needs to make her life better for the mistake I have made."
Schumaker was arrested and charged with rape Jan. 16. As of press time he was being held in the Fulton County Jail.
