Man charged with terroristic threatening

Thursday, November 16, 2006

Daniel James Torrez, 28, of Marshall, Ill., was arrested and charged with three counts of first degree terroristic threatening and criminal trespass Nov. 8, according to the Izard County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities reported Torrez allegedly began making threats to unidentified Melbourne residents via phone calls Nov. 5.

Apparently Torrez was traveling to Izard County because during his calls Torrez gave detailed descriptions of how he would physically harm his intended victims once he reached the Melbourne area, authorities said.

The calls continued until Nov. 8 when Torrez was arrested after his arrival in Izard County.

"He (Torrez) is not from here, but he does have some relatives around the area," Izard County Sheriff Tate Lawrence said.

Lawrence also said he was not aware of Torrez having any type of criminal history.

According to Lawrence, no more could be said regarding the situation for fear of revealing Torrez's victims.

Torrez's hometown sheriff, John Parsley, with the Clark County Illinois. Sheriff's Department, said he knew of Torrez but was not familiar with his Nov. 8 arrest or the circumstances surrounding it.

Parsley would not comment on whether Torrez had any type of criminal history; however, he did say Torrez had recently, without notice, left the Marshall area.
