Fulton County in disaster declaration

Thursday, October 5, 2006

Governor Mike Huckabee activated recovery services through the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (ADEM) and the Arkansas Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to aid homeowners in counties with uninsured losses from the severe weather that occurred Sept. 22.

After sweeping through Northeast Arkansas, the Sept. 22 storms that took two lives also uprooted hundreds of trees, overturned vehicles and flooded residential areas, causing thousands of dollars of damage. These state disaster funds have been made available to provide limited assistance to those eligible residents of Fulton, Sharp, Lawrence, Clay and Randolph counties that experienced this disaster first hand.

Temporary housing assistance grants will be available for anyone whose residence was destroyed or made unfit as a result of storm damage. The Individual and Family Grant program (IGF) will be available through the DHHS to help victims with serious needs or expenses also incurred by the weather.

The state will assess each individual's needs and assistance will be available to those deemed eligible.

Information regarding these financial aid programs can be obtained by calling ADEM at 877-828-3362. Applications from the specified counties will be taken through Oct. 10.
