Born 1-27-1921 -- Died 6-15-2006

Mertie Alverta Ninemire died June 15, 2006, at 4:40 p.m. at St. Luke's Hospital. She was born Jan. 27, 1921, in Iuka, Ark.

She was the sixth of 10 children born to Mag Nolia and Jake Sanders. She lived most of her childhood and teenage years in Salem with her nine brothers and sisters.

She married Truman Ninemire Sept. 19, 1938, and they had three children, Amy, Phyllis and Ron. In 1953, they moved to Kansas City and a few years later moved to the Northland area to raise their family. Truman worked for Gustin Bacon Mfg., and Mertie spent several years at home with their children. Later, she worked for Klines Department Store in the fur department. When Klines closed, she went to work on the Plaza for Harzfelds as the manager of the fur department.

The Ninemires were charter members of Northland Baptist Church. They were active in the church, involved in construction, vacation bible school, Sunday school and the nursery. She retired in 1983. She bowled until she was 80 years old and spent the last 50 years searching and compiling information for her genealogy books.

She enjoyed gardening and every year had a large garden. At the age of 80, she purchased a computer and learned to search for information about her ancestors and play games.

In the past 12 months she accumulated a wealth of new friends at New Mark Care Center and referred to them as her New Mark family. She was voted Valentine Princess at New Mark.

She is survived by a brother, Jesse Sanders; daughters, Amy and Don Passig and Phyllis and Mike Dusenbery; son, Ron and Doreen Ninemire; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and many more relatives and friends.

Services were held June 19, 2006, at D.W. Newcomer's White Chapel Funeral Home. Private interment in East Slope Cemetery. Arrangements under the D.W. Newcomer's White Chapel, 6600 N. Antioch, Gladstone, MO 64119.
