MSU-WP basketball camp on tap

Thursday, July 13, 2006

Young basketball enthusiasts looking for something to do this summer can make plans to attend the upcoming Grizzly Basketball 2-in-1 Specialty Camp.

The four-day camp, which runs July 24-27, focuses on shooting and competition exercises for boys and girls in grades third through 12th, according to Brian Ostermann, head coach of the Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzly basketball team.

"The Grizzly basketball program at Missouri State-West Plains has four intense, fun-filled days of basketball scheduled for campers," he said. "The '2-in-1' camp specializes in shooting and competition. We will evaluate, in detail, every camper's shot, and we will have many different competitive games and contests."

The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day, with lunch and dinner being served to campers. Participants who plan to stay overnight will sleep in the Grizzly House residence hall.

Awards will be given to the top competitors in the different contests, and each participant will receive a Grizzly basketball or free T-shirt.

Participants will be instructed by Ostermann, assistant Grizzly basketball coach Nathan Courtney, who also is a former college player, and seven-year college coach Julie Ostermann.

In addition, the entire 2006-2007 Grizzly Basketball team will be on hand to provide instruction. Ostermann said, "This seems to be a very popular camp, and the fact our Grizzlies will be on hand only adds to the excitement."

Cost of the camps are $195, which includes meals. An additional fee will be charged to participants who stay in the Grizzly House.

Registration forms are available by calling the Grizzly basketball office at 417-255-7993, or at the office on the second floor of the West Plains Civic Center's east side.
