Kerr negotiates plea bargain

Wednesday, May 16, 2007

An Izard County man will soon take up residence at the Arkansas Department of Correction.

Jerry L. Kerr, 40, of Franklin negotiated a plea agreement regarding charges of sexual crimes committed against children in Izard County Circuit Court April 23.

Kerr has been incarcerated in the Izard County Detention Facility since he was arrested Aug. 26, 2006, after a 7-year-old male gave a detailed description to Izard County authorities of sexual acts Kerr had performed on him and had forced him to perform on Kerr.

Following his initial arrest, Kerr was charged with three counts of rape. However, Izard County authorities continued the investigation and additional victims surfaced.

In January, Kerr was issued an additional rape charge that stemmed from a 1997 incident involving an 11-year-old boy.

Kerr is currently being held in the Izard County Detention Facility. He will remain there until space is available in the Arkansas Department of Correction, which should be approximately one month, according to Izard County Sheriff Tate Lawrence.
