Grizzly basketball camps set to tip

Wednesday, May 16, 2007

Spots remain for the upcoming Missouri State-West Plains Grizzly Little Dribblers Camp and the Elementary Skills Camp that begin on May 22, according to camp organizers.

The camps are slated to take place at the West Plains Civic Center.

"The Grizzly Basketball Program at Missouri State University-West Plains has four fun-filled days of basketball to start your summer vacation out right," Grizzly Head Coach Brian Ostermann said.

The Little Dribblers Camp for boys and girls age 3 through 6 (preschool through kindergarten) will be held from noon to 12:30 p.m. each day May 22-25, and will concentrate on ball handling skills, passing skills, along with dribbling and catching the ball.

Each participant will receive a free ball.

The Elementary Skills Camp for boys and girls in first through sixth grades will be held from 9 a.m. to noon each day May 22-26 and will concentrate on basic basketball fundamentals, with primary emphasis being placed on passing, shooting, dribbling and footwork.

There will be several contests and awards, and each child will receive a Grizzly basketball or a free T-shirt.

Participants will be instructed by Ostermann, assistant Grizzly basketball Coach Andre Amos, and seven-year college coach Julie Ostermann.

Cost of the camps are $35 for the Little Dribblers and $75 for the Elementary Skills Camp.

Registration forms are available by calling the Grizzly basketball office, 417-255-7993, or by visiting the Grizzly Basketball Web site at www.wp.missouristate.edu/Grizzly/bb.htm and clicking on the Basketball Camps link underneath the Grizzly head logo.

Other camps are scheduled later in the summer, including the Shooting and Competition Camp for boys and girls in third through 12th grade July 24-27, and the Grizzly Boys Team Shootouts for junior high/middle school, junior varsity and varsity teams in early August.

More details about these camps will be announced at a later date, or those interested can visit the Grizzly Basketball Camps web site.
