Break-in at Ash Flat

Thursday, September 14, 2006

Ash Flat Police are investigating a residential break-in at a home on South Circle Drive.

Police Chief Mike Zeiger went to the home belonging to John and Judy Katrosh on Aug. 28 to investigate a reported burglary.

When the Judy Katrosh arrived at the home she went to the restroom to turn on water and noticed jewelry on the floor in a nearby bedroom, Zeiger said. She then called 9-1-1.

Along with the jewelry on the floor, Zeiger also noticed cabinets and drawers opened in the home and a bed in the spare bedroom in disarray, he said.

Upon further investigation Zeiger determine how the thief or thieves entered the home.

"I then viewed a window above the kitchen sink, where the screen had been cut open, and the window was partially raised," Zeiger said. "The back sliding glass door, as well as the door leading outside from a screened-in porch, were partially opened."

Because of recent rains no footprints were visible on the ground, Zeiger said. Partial dirt footprints were seen on the siding below the kitchen window. Fingerprints were taken at the scene but were of poor quality, possibly indicating that the thief or thieves wore gloves, Zeiger said.

A television, radio and VCR were left untouched along with several other items in the home, Zeiger said. Judy Katrosh was unable to list items taken from the home at the time the report was taken.

Anyone with information regarding the break-in should call the Ash Flat Police Department at 870-994-3061.
