Harris and Maxine Dark celebrated 60 years of marriage at a family gathering at Riverside Resort in Mammoth Spring. The event was hosted by their children and grandchildren Drs. Rick and Veronica Dark, Susan and Sonny Chaffin, Andrea Chaffin, Christina Pedano and great-grandson Tristan Pedano. Grandson Cederick and wife Amber are stationed in Colorado and were unable to attend.
Harris Dark and Maxine (Ball) Dark were married July 28, 1946, by the Rev. Fern Cook at Hardy Methodist Church. After attending various colleges out of state the couple graduated from the University of Arkansas in May of 1951. They taught school at Hardy from 1951 to 1964 when the school was moved to Highland. Harris retired from Highland in 1983, having taught for 32 years plus receiving three years credit for services during World War II, giving him 35 years. Maxine taught for 36 years, retiring June 3, 1988, on her 62nd birthday.
Harris, an ordained Baptist deacon, and Maxine, a Sunday school teacher for many years, attribute their joy in life to their faith in God, love for each other and their family.
