Cynthia Odessa (Grice) Howell of Salem, daughter of Violet Eveleen (Yates) Grice and the late Homer Alford Grice, was born on Aug. 28, 1953, in Vero Beach, Fla.

She died July 22, 2006, at her home in Salem at the age of 52.

She was united in marriage to Gerald "Pete" Howell on March 31, 1972, at Pineville, Ark., and to this union three children were born. She was a loving wife and mother. Howell attended the Assembly of God church and worked in child care.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald "Pete" Howell of Salem; sons, Jason Dean Howell and fiance Jennifer Sullivan of Salem, and Justin Scott Howell of Salem; a daughter, Jenifer Lynn Howell of Salem; her mother, Violet Eveleen Grice of Oxford; two brothers, Richard Luke of Fellsmere, Fla., and Alfred Grice and wife Jill of Oxford; four sisters, Judy Tillman of Ash Flat, Linda Ball and husband, Darrell of Oxford, Sheila Coggins and husband Jack of Oxford and Melanie Taylor and husband Scotty of Oxford; nieces and nephews, Rodney Luke and wife Donna of Vero Beach, Gain Luke of Oxford, Homer Ray Morrison of Fellsmere, Fla., Sharon Griffin and husband Eddie Hellums of Iraq, Rebecca Rider and husband Mike of Oxford, Allison Hall and Jason of Hardy, Jackie Coggins and fiance Gretchen Long of Oxford, Melinda Wallis and husband Kendall of Franklin, Jessica Gilbreath and husband Michael of Ash Flat, Jeannie Ward of Mt. Pleasant, Jimmy Hall of Jacksonville, Fla., and Joey Hall of Fayetteville, Ark., and her great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Homer A. Grice; paternal grandparents, Jerden and Maddie Bell Grice; maternal grandparents, Ewell and Ellie Yates; brother, Ray Morriston; sister, Gloria J. Owens; and nephews, Willie Wayne Ball and Johnny D. Hall.

Graveside services were held July 24 at the Viola Cemetery with Bro. Mike Downing officiating. Interment was in the Viola Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem.

Pallbearers were Chris Layne, Kenneth Eldried, Lyn Reynolds, Scotty Taylor, Michael Kilbreath and Kendall Wallis.
