Gordon Neil Avery was born the son of Frank Avery and Minnie Trailor Avery on Aug. 19, 1934, in Haines City, Fla.

He died Oct. 20, 2006, at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Mo. at the age of 72.

He was united in marriage July 22, 1954, in Auburndale, Fla., son of Ella Faye Ennis.

Survivors include his wife, Ella Faye of the home in Auburndale, Fla.; three children, Dennis Avery and wife, Lorna of Mammoth Spring, Tawni Tucker of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Trina Strom and husband, Orlan of Helena, Mont.; nine grandchildrn, Alan Avery and wife Dawnisa of West Plains, Mathew Avery and wife Brietta of Evansville, Ind., Trista Avery of Mammoth Spring, Travis Tucker and wife Elizabeth of Columbia, Mo., Winston Tucker and wife Cassie of Alton, Nicholas Tucker and wife Charity of Thayer and Tyler, Tyson and Tait Strom all of Helena, Mont.; four great-grandchildren, Alex Avery, Mason Tucker, Payton Tucker, Joslyn Tucker and two unborn great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Gladys Ennis, of Auburndale; one brother, Don Avery of Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, June Oliver of Winter Haven, Fla.; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, A.C. Ennis.

Along with his wife, Avery was a businessman, owning and operating a dry cleaners from 1952 to 1997, including one in Thayer for several years.

He also worked in real estate sales with Cozort Realty in Thayer in the 1980s.

He was a member of Lena Vista Baptist Church in Auburndale, Fla., and was a 32nd Degree Mason in Clifton Lodge No. 463 in Thayer.

Services were held on Oct. 24 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Bro. R.L. O'Quinn officiating.

Burial followed in the Riverside Cemetery in Mammoth Spring with arrangements under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home Inc. of Thayer.
