Valentine Casmir Zak, 77, of Cherokee Village died June 3 2006, at Eaglecrest Nursing Home in Ash Flat.

Zak was born in Chicago, Ill., the son of Casmir and Sophia Kubik Zak. He worked as an engineer for General Motors for 37 years before retiring and moving to Cherokee Village 13 years ago from Greenville, Wis., and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He served in the Navy during World War II, was member of the Highland Elks Club and was an avid golfer.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Zak of Cherokee Village; two sons, Thomas and Anne Zak of Milwaukee, Wis., and Lawrence Zak of Berlin, Wis.; daughters, Kathleen and Wally Schaffer of Waukesha, Wis., and Valerie Zak of Milwaukee; a brother, Edward Zak of Horseshoe Bend; a sister, Elizabeth Kross of Antioch, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Schaffer, Shawn Zak, Christopher Zak, Jacqueline Podolski, Jessica Greisch, Brittany Zak and Sara Soldner.

A memorial mass was celebrated June 6 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Cherokee Village with rosary at 9:30 a.m. with Father John Lewandowski officiating.In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Eaglcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ash Flat.
