Ernest "Colonel" Bruce, 72, of Cave City died May 28, 2006, at his home.
He was born Sept. 17, 1933, at Calamine, Ark., the son of the late Clarence Wallace and Mabel Elizabeth (Moore) Bruce. He retired from the Arkansas Highway Department.
He was a veteran having served in Germany as an Army paratrooper during World War II and was a natural musician, playing both the piano and fiddle at area nursing homes and was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include three brothers, Wallace Bruce of Seaside, Calif., Calvin Bruce of Fort Myers, Fla., and Harold Bruce of Powhatan; one sister, Alice Foley of Powhatan; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Bruce; and two sisters, Martha Lackey and Bertha Gill.
Graveside services were held May 30 at the Lancaster Cemetery at Strawberry with Bro. Shannon Smith officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Honorary pallbearers were Tim Crouch, David Foley, Alvin Wortman, Michael Bruce, Jon Patterson and Bruce Gill.
