Thursday, June 15, 2006

Kenny Wallace, of NASCAR fame, is scheduled to return to West Plains Motor Speedway on June 15 for the second annual Kenny Wallace Race Night.

Wallace will be available for autographs and pictures from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by an open-wheel modified event where he will compete with the local drivers in heats, and a feature event paying $1,000 to win, and $100 to start.

During his first appearance at WPMS last year, Wallace charmed fans and spectators with his warm and friendly demeanor, taking time to visit with old friends and new fans alike.

Wallace recalled memories of his childhood trips to the area with his dad, Russ, and brothers, Rusty and Mike, while the elder Wallaces raced local dirt tracks competing with some veteran drivers.

Kenny Wallace, raised in the Rolla area, now divides his time between homes in St. Louis and Concord, N.C., but frequently drops in at the Impressive Chassis shop where he also has a business interest.

Wallace will be wheeling his familiar #36 Impressive Chassis, this year adorned with the St. Louis Cardinals logo and artwork.

A selection of Wallace's souvenir items will also be available at the track on race night.

This special event will have the Hobby Stock as a support class, and the evening is sponsored by Ledgerwood Trucking of Birch Tree.

Gates open at 5 p.m., an autograph session is scheduled from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by hot laps and racing.

Adult admission will be $10, kids 7-11 $3, those 6 and under are always free, and pit passes will be $25.

West Plains Motor Speedway is located 6 miles south of West Plains on US Highway 63.
