MSG. John Sasfai Jr., (Ret. USA), 77, of Cherokee Village, died May 22, 2006 in Crossville, Tenn.
He was born June 12, 1928, in Throop, Pa.
After graduation from Honesdale, High School in Honesdal, Pa., he worked for the Dairyman's League.
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1948 and served until 1968 with duty in Korea during the Korean War, Germany, Fort Meyer and the Pentagon. He retired as a MSG in 1968. He was the special security manager for the Institute for Defense Analysis in Arlington and Alexandria, Va., from October of 1968 until retirement in January of 1996. He moved to Cherokee Village in May of 1996.
For a short time he belonged to the Cherokee Village Men's Golf Association. He was the director of Parks and Recreation for the Property Owners Association and was a member of the Spring River Sportsman's Club.
Sasfai also assisted with the Cherokee Village Lifeline program and was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; two sons, David and Douglas Sasfai both of Arlington,Va.; two grandchildren, Kevin and Sara Sasfai both of Arlington, Va., and stepsons, Todd Bozenbury and wife, Diane of Fredericksburg, Va.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna Onder Sasfai and John Sasfai Sr. a sister, Mary Sasfai Bagnal; and a brother, Andrew Sasfai.
A memorial service was held May 31 at the Tri-County Funeral Home in Highland with Rev. Vern Forsbertg officiating.
Interment of the ashes will be in the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
