Toy drive for area children

Thursday, December 7, 2006

THAYER -- Bumper to Bumper Ram Auto Parts of Thayer has joined forces with the Mammoth Spring VFW as a drop off-point for the Toys for Toddlers drive.

Toys for Toddlers is a gift-sharing program and this is the second year the store has been involved in the project. The store is located at 424 S. 9th Street. The new, unwrapped toys will be collected at the store through Dec. 19.

"So often we forget there are families who are not able to provide toys for their children during the holiday season. Compared to food, clothing and shelter, buying toys is low on the priority list when money is tight," said store manager Perry Turner.

"We want to help those parents and caregivers provide toys for their children during the holiday season. It gives the child hope for the future and lets them know that their neighbors care," he said.

Toy donations can be for any age child, but the toys must be new and unwrapped. Volunteers will sort and organize the toys for distribution. He said the Mammoth Spring VFW is best qualified to identify the disadvantaged children in the community and will play a key role in the distribution of the toys.

Turner said the program's success depends on the support of the community and the generosity of those who donate. "We seek the support of every person in the community to help make this year's event a success and give every child a holiday to remember," he said.
