THAYER -- The Thayer Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a talent show June 12 and June 13 at the Oregon County Country Music Theater.

The theater is located at Fifth and Walnut Street in Thayer and will start each evening at 7 p.m.

According to LaRee Rees, coordinator of the show, there will be two age groups.

The June 12 show will be children 12-years-old and younger and the June 13 show will be for 13-years-old on up.

Rees said trophies and cash prizes will be awarded and first place winners will perform at the Thayer July 4 celebration.

She said there are several rules pertaining to the show.

* Entry forms must be completed and turned in with a $10 entry fee no later than June 6 or until all avaliable spaces are taken.

* Contestants must be in their appropriate age category on the date of the contest. If a group is entering, they will be placed in the age category of the oldest group member.

* Contestants will provide their own music. A sound system, piano, tape and CD player will be available.

* Each contestant will sing or play only one song no longer than five minutes long.

* There will be no obscene language, dancing or inappropriate gestures to the crowd. In the event of such an act, the persons/group will be automatically disqualified from the competition.

* A person can enter as a solo act once and enter with a group but must complete an entry form and fee for each.

* Minor children must be accompanied to the contest by a parent or guardian.

* Contestants should be at the theater to check in 15 minutes before the show.

Rees said three judges will rate the performers on the following three components:

* Talent/overall -- scale one to 10 (50 points possible). Ability, skill, proficiency, polish.

* Showmanship -- scale of one to six (30 points possible). Poise, projection, adaptability, stage presence.

* Staging/costume -- scale one to four (20 points possible). Creativity, appropriateness, continuity, special effects.

Rees said there will be a total of 100 possible points for the performance.

Entry forms can be picked up at the Bank of Thayer location in Thayer, Alton and West Plains and also at K-Kountry 95 radio station.
