Thursday, August 19, 2004

Staff Writer

ROCKAWAY BEACH -- Thayer Mayor Allen Deckard and his team off chili cookers will be defending their state title this September in Rockaway Beach when they participate in this year's chili cookoff.

Mayor Deckard and the Thayer team will start cooking their secret recipe chili around 7 a.m. Sept. 18. The chili will be judged at noon. Chili will be sold for $2 a bowl that day.

The team will be responsible for cooking at least five gallons of chili. They will have to provide a way to cook, utensils and ingredients. They will be able to decorate their booth area any way they choose, and anyone in the city who would like to make the trip to Rockaway Beach is invited to attend and cheer them on.

The entry fee for the contest is $40. The Thayer team is accepting monetary donations from the community to help make their trip a success.

For more information call Thayer City Hall at 417-264-3921.
