Ronnie Gossell, 63, of Cherokee Village, Ark., died April 17, 2005, at his residence.
Born March 1, 1942, in Woodstock, Ill., he was the son of Richard Gossell and Helen Zimmerman Gossell. He graduated from the Harvard High School in Harvard, Ill., in 1960. He went on to North Carolina State University on a basketball scholarship and was destined for a professional basketball team until he was in an automobile accident in 1964. He later worked for the sheriff's department in Woodstock, Ill, doing different jobs.
He married Ray Lynn Pohl May 29, 1993, in Rockford, Ill. and they moved to Cherokee Village in 1995 from Rockford. He was a member of the Royal Order of the Moose. Ronnie loved to play cards and loved being with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Rae Lynn Pohl Gossell of the home; his mother, Helen Gossell of Harvard; a son, Jeff Gossell of Walworth, Wis.; two daughters -- Shannon Elser of Cannon, Ky., and Ronica Gossell of Rockford; a sister, Pat Carlson of Sharon, Wis.; two nephews -- Berry and DeeDee Carlson of Wisconsin, and Paul Carlson of Illinois; a niece, Lora and Eric Robinson of Wonderlake, Ill.; two grandchildren; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held April 29 at the senior center in Cherokee Village at 2 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Highland, Ark.
