Grant Snyder, 81, of Atkins, Ark., formerly of Russellville, died Aug. 17, 2004, at the V.A. Regional Medical Center in Little Rock.

Born Feb. 15, 1923, in Scott City, Kan., he was the son of T.R. and Charlotte Louise Pierce Snyder. He married Mildred Marie Thompson April 17, 1947, in Las Vegas. He was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict and World War II. He owned and operated Snyder Construction and Roofing in Russellville for 44 years. He was a member of the Order of the Eagle in California, the auxiliary police and was a former Boy Scout leader.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Snyder of Atkins; three sons and their wives -- Mike and Ginger Snyder and Dan and Sheila Snyder, all of Morrilton, and John Snyder of Nashville, Ark.; five daughters and their husbands -- Doris Snyder and Charlott and Greg Scott, all of Russellville, Kathy and Mike Burke of Mammoth Spring, Patricia and Rick Vint of Houston, and Julie Snyder of Atkins; 17 grandchildren -- Jeremy C. Snyder and Jennifer Snyder, both of Memphis, Kimberly Snyder of Nashville, Ark., Amie Morris, Jason Snyder, Brandi Austin and Grant Snyder, all of Atkins, Andrea Martin and Andrey Snyder of Russellville, Megan Burke of Mammoth Spring, Nathan Snyder, Aaron Snyder and Kevin Snyder of Morrilton, Keith Snyder of Ola, Ark., Jeremy Snyder of Dover, Ark., and Austin Vint and Dylan Vint, both of Houston; four great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law -- Joyce and Gene Rice of Mammoth Spring.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers -- Truman and Melton Snyder; and two sisters -- Justine Snyder and Audrey Douglas.

The funeral was Aug. 20 at Humphrey Chapel with the Rev. Charley Casto officiating. A private family burial followed at Ellsworth Cemetery at Subiaco Academy by Humphrey Funeral Service.

Pallbearers were his grandsons.
