Thursday, August 26, 2004

Staff Writer

OREGON COUNTY -- Ozark Action Inc. is seeking board members to represent the Oregon and Wright county private sector. Ron Cornelius from Thayer now holds that three-year term will soon expire.

OAI is a community action agency which aims to assist individuals and families toward increased economic self-sufficiency. It provides emergency services, affordable housing programs, weatherization assistance, Head Start, and Workforce Development programs, helps strengthen community infrastructure through efforts that combine and conserve resources, and help develop new programs and ideas.

The agency is governed by an 18-member board. Other local board members include Randal Combs of Alton, who serves as the low income board member, and Buddy Wright of Alton, who serves as the public sector board member.

The OAI governing board is composed of equal representation from members who speak for the low income who are served by the agency's programs, the public sector which has the ability to influence funding for those programs and the private sector, which can help start support for programs that benefit those needing assistance towards the goal of economic self sufficiency.

Oregon and Wright county residents representing community and business organizations which are interested in volunteer services are encouraged to inquire about the board nomination process by contacting Kim Barks or Bryan Adcock at 417-256-6147.

The Alton OAI number is 417-778-7470 and the Thayer number is 417-264-2215.
