Arthur Lee Wells, 81, of Williford, Ark., died Jan. 13, 2004, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, He was born Dec. 1, 1922 in Ravenden, Ark., the son of the late Samuel Henry and Stella Mae Halstead Wells. He was united in marriage to the former Rexie Sparlin of Pocahontas, Ark., on Feb. 2, 1959, in Ravenden. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army; was a self-employed carpenter; and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Rexie Sparlin Wells of the home; four sons -- Jimmy Wells of Indiana, Sammy Wells and Tommy Wells, both of Houston, Texas, and a step-son, Andy Sparlin of Peach Orchard; seven daughters -- Rebecca Heath of Smithville, Ark., Elizabeth Wells of Williford, Ark., Teressa Brooks of Florida, Linda Wells Dart of Canon City, Colo., Joye Mangis of Jonesboro, Ark., Berry Gail Cramer of Oklahoma, and Sandy Claybourne of Georgia; a sister, Monnie Scott Pickett of Williford, Ark.; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
In additon to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jessie Wells.
The funeral was Jan. 16 at Higginbotham Chapel in Hardy, Ark. Burial followed in Dale Cemetery with John Stoll officiating. Arrangements were by Higginbotham Funeral Service Inc. of Hardy, Ark.
Pallbearers were David Wells, Ronnie Wells, Butch Dail, Raymond Wilkerson, Bobby Scott and William Junkersfield. Honorary pallearers were Danny Scott and Gary Scott.
