The Thayer Lady Bobcats claimed their third straight Class 2 District 9 title with a hard-fought 52-47 victory over Norwood March 5 in Dora.
Down by eight points heading into the final frame, the Lady Cats rallied, outscoring Norwood 26-13 in the last period.
Norwood's deliberate pace slowed Thayer in the first three periods, holding the Lady Cats to a combined 26 points in the first three periods, before Thayer turned up the tempo and broke free for 26 points in the fourth frame to secure the win.
Switching to a scrambling, man-to-man defense the last half of the game, the Lady Cats (26-1) turned the tide in their favor.
The victory sends Thayer to the state sectionals at Marshfield this week.
Megan Underwood led Thayer with 28 points, 13 of those coming in the fourth period, while LaShanda Horton added seven, and Summer Jones six. Christa Cox finished with four, while Kylee McAlmond and Sarah Caldwell posted three points apiece.
The Lady Cats advanced to the finals with a 59-29 rout of Marshfield March 2.
Up 20-9 after the first period, the Lady Bobcats cruised and put the wraps on Marshfield by outscoring them 16-1 in the final frame.
Underwood paced Thayer with 16 points, while Horton added 14. Jones kicked in with 10, and McAlmond seven. Caldwell, Valerie Dixon, Brittany Allen and Cox all logged two points each.
