Alta Marie James, daughter of the late Levi Goins and Nancy Young Goins, was born Aug. 14, 1915, in Myrtle, Mo., and died Feb. 21, 2004, in Jonesboro, Ark., at the age of 88 years. She was married on Nov. 5, 1941, in Alton, Mo., to Amos James.
She was a homemaker and was employed by State School #60 for Handicapped Children for many years and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Myrtle, Mo., and enjoyed quilting with the senior citizens group in Myrtle, Mo.
Survivors include a daughter, Loretta Pulliam and husband, James, of Myrtle, Mo.; a son, Ardell James of the home in Myrtle; two grandchildren -- Michelle Croney of Myrtle, and Bill Shaw Jr. of Paragould; three great-grandchildren -- Seth Lee, Chris Lee and William Coby Shaw; a brother, Don Goins; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters -- Ella Dotson, Beulah Hopper and Vercie Williams.
The funeral service was Feb. 25 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel of Thayer, Mo., with the Rev. John McFarlan officiating. Burial was in Myrtle Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home Inc. of Thayer, Mo.
Pallbearers were Bill Shaw, Jr., Seth Lee, Tom James, Bubba Shaw, Chris Lee and Terry James.
