Oscar Woodrow Hamby, of Calico Rock, son of the late John Henry Hamby and Louanna Sexton Hamby, was born Aug. 27, 1917, in Culp, Ark. He died March 2, 2004, in Calico Rock at the age of 86 years. He married Madelyn Smith Hamby Nov. 6, 1948, in Culp, Ark., and to this union four children were born. During his working years, he was employed as a brick mason. He served in the United States Army and was of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors are his wife, Madelyn Smith Hamby of the home; a son and daughter-in-law -- Joe and Gayla Hamby of Viola; two daughters and sons-in-law -- Debbie and Tom Wren of Mountain Home, and Kim and Tim Graham of Conway; a daughter-in-law, Janice Hamby of Calico Rock; three brothers -- June Hamby, Bill Hamby and Tom Hamby, all of Calico Rock; a sister, Lea Kimberlin of Cleburne, Texas; six grandchildren -- Shawn Hamby and wife, Billie, Mindy Woods and husband, Roger, Tommy Wren and wife, Ann, Amanda Wren, Josh Hamby and Courtney Hamby; and three great-grandchildren -- Kaleb Hamby, Jarrett Hamby and Jacie Woods.
He was preceded in death by a son, John Hamby; his parents; a brother, Jarrell Hamby; and a sister, Edna Pinkston.
The funeral was March 5, at Calico Rock Funeral Chapel with Charles Faith officiating. Burial was at Table Rock Cemetery with arrangements by Eddie's Family Funeral Home of Calico Rock, Ark.
Pallbearers were Tommy Wren, Roger Woods, Josh Hamby, Kenny Hamby, Denny Hamby and Greg Hamby.
Honorary pallbearers were Darrell Killian, David McNeil, David Burgess and Lee Cowgill.
