Edward Wells, 91, of Salem, Ark., son of the late William Tucker Wells and Olie Penner Whitehouse Wells, was born Jan. 23, 1913, in Bradford, Ark. He died March 18, 2004, at Fulton County Nursing Center in Salem.
He married Bertha Marie Gatley Sept. 25, 1937, at Newport, Ark. To this union six children were born. He was a farmer and a member of Viola Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, William "Bud" Wells of Salem; five daughters -- Lottie Ausley of High Point, N.C., Wilma O'Shields of Pensacola, Fla., Rhoda Midland of Polkton, N.C., Mary Sumner of Carlisle, and Judy William of Little Rock; a brother, Boyd Wells of Clinton; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a grandson and several brothers and sisters.
The funeral was March 22 at Cox-Blevins Chapel in Salem, Burial was at Carter Cemetery in Russell, Ark., with arrangements under the direction of Cox-Blevins Funeral Home.
