Pride week comes to Thayer

Thursday, March 25, 2004

THAYER -- The Thayer City Council voted March 9 to set clean-up, paint-up, fix-up week in the city of Thayer for March 29 through April 2. During the week trash will be picked up on regular trash days.

The trash company that serves the city, IESI, reminds residents a roll-off container will be placed beside the Thayer Police Station and will remain there all week for large items such as furniture. Used motor oil may be taken to the Oregon County Recycling Center. All trash must be bagged, boxed or canned for pickup.

Council members, along with local firefighters are asking every resident and property owner within the city limits, as well as all civic clubs, schools, churches and Boy and Girl Scouts, to take an active part in the spring sprucing up that will include both the residential and business sections of town.

Heavy steel, rocks, concrete, tires, fluids, paints, oil and car batteries will not be accepted for the pickup.

City officials said white goods like refrigerators may be set by the curb and will be picked up by calling City Hall at 264-3921.

Yard waste, including lawn clippings, will not be picked up.

Council members said weeds and grass on residential and vacant lots should be kept trimmed through the growing season.

IESI trucks will pick up refuse on the south side of the city March 29 and will pick up trash on the north side of the city March 30.
