Jo Ann Emerson files for re-election
CAPE GIRARDEAU -- On Feb. 27 Rep. Jo Ann Emerson filed for re-election to the U.S. Congress. Emerson represents the 8th Congressional District which comprises 28 counties, including Oregon County, from the Mississippi River to 45 miles east of Springfield.
Emerson, who serves on the House Appropriations Committee, made her candidacy official upon filing the required paperwork and paying the fee at the office of the Secretary of State in Jefferson City. Other subcommittees the representative belongs to include: agriculture, energy, water and transportation.
"I am proud to have served the people of southern Missouri for nearly eight years and I am excited about continuing our mission in Washington. Nothing is more important than making progress on the issues facing us in rural America," Emerson said,
Elected in 1996, Emerson is the first Republican woman to be elected to the House of Representatives from Missouri.
The 8th District is considered the most rural district in the state.
