Bernard Elmer "Benny" Armstrong, 58, of Cherokee Village, formerly of Ottawa, Ill., died April 17, 2004, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
He was born July 12, 1945, in Ottawa to Robert Irwin and Anne Dougherty Armstrong. He married Connie Sue Farrell April 27, 1968, at St. Patrick's Church in Ottawa. He was a member of St. Parick's Church in Ottawa and St. Michael's Church in Cherokee Village, the Streator Moose Lodge 372 and the Elks Lodge 2539. He was retired from Wedron Silica.
Survivors include his wife; two sons -- Thomas Robert (Tammy) of Kannapolis, NC, and Patrick Eric (Sheri) of Wedron, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Becky Sue (Stanley) Johnson of Ottawa; nine grandchildren -- Breanna, Joshua, Michael, Robert Thomas, Nicole Ann, Mickey and Blair Armstrong, Tyler and Desarae Sue Steele of Ottawa and Charlie Farrell of Ottawa, a sister, Joanne (Eugene) White of Ottawa; and three brothers -- Robert I. (Judy) Armstrong Jr. and Peter (Carodeane) Armstrong, both of Ottawa, and John (Janet) Armstrong of Marseilles.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents.
Mass of Christian Burial was April 21 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Philip D. Halfacre officiating. Cremation was accorded. Arrangements were under the direction of Gladfelter Funeral Home of Ottawa, Ill.
Pallbearers included grandchildren, family and godsons.
