James Elroy Warren, 70, of Sturkie, Ark., son of the late Greenberry and Emily S. Fry Warren was born Aug. 28, 1933, in Caraway, Ark. He died Aug. 1, 2004, at Salem, Ark.
He married Kathy Ann Kallenback March 11, 1966, at Millington, Tenn.
He spent his working years as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and Boatswain's Mate for the United States Navy from which he retired, serving his country in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of the Salem VFW Post 9777, Fleet Reserves and Ozaks Foothill Pigeon Club. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Ann Warren of Sturkie, Ark.; four sons -- Ralph Berry Warren of Peoria, Ariz., James Edward Warren of Colorado Springs, Colo., Steven J. Warren of Salem, Ark., and Ricky Allen Grootonk of San Diego; eight daughters -- Debra Yaney of Olympia, Wash., Teresa Grootonk of Seattle, Wash., Melonie Priestly of Las Vegas, Martha Galbraith of Sturkie, Marie Grootonk of San Diego, Regina Grootonk of San Diego, Barbara Warren of Sacramento, Calif., and Darlene Grootonk of San Diego; 14 grandchildren, Jaime Lee, Karliann, Angie, Dina, Ian, Eric, Jeremy, Nicole, Symatha, Serenity, Portia, Briaun, Cassidy, Josh and Clifford; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside funeral service was Aug. 6 at Fairview Cemetery in Salem with M.L. White, VFW Chaplain officiating. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Salem.
