A young father with a 19-month old son, Jerry Lee Werner, 27, of Douglas, Ala., formerly of this area, was killed in a two-car head-on crash Aug. 21, 2004. The accident happened about 3 miles from his home. He was a 1995 graduate of Mammoth Spring High School.
Also killed in the accident was the driver of the other vehicle.
Warner was going to his good friend Chris Johnson's house on Highway 168 between Douglas and Boaz to take him to the hospital emergency room. Johnson had broken his wrist. Both men worked together at Charter Communications, where Werner was a broadband technician.
He was born in Hammond, Ind. He and his wife, Michelle, were married on July 6, 1998. He had worked at Charter Communication since March.
He attended Arkansas State University. He was a Catholic.
He enjoyed golf and baseball. He was known as a caring person, always available to help his friends.
Survivors include his wife, Michelle Jackson Werner; his son, Brandon Lee Werner of the home; his father, Marshall Lee Werner (Diane) of Indiana; his mother, Janet Westinghouse of Douglas, Ga.; two sisters, Mindi Zajac and Tawnja Westinghouse both of Albertville, Ga.; and a brother, David Johnson also of Albertville.
The funeral service was Aug. 25 at Albertville Memorial Chapel with burial in Douglas Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Johnson, Lee Huffstickler, Chris Johnson, Chris McGahee, Chris Shaw, Brandon Murdock and Art Westinghouse.
