Abe Millard Hammond, of Salem, Ark., son of the late William Simpson and Roxie Mae Workman Hammond, was born June 3, 1912, in Sturkie, Ark.

He departed this life Aug. 29, 2004, at Salem, Ark., at the age of 92 years, 2 months and 26 days.

Abe was united in marriage to Alma Elizabeth Walker on Feb. 22, 1936, at Mt. Calm, Ark., and to this union, four children were born. He spent his working years as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, carpenter, farmer, and auctioneer. He was a former Fulton County Quorum Court Justice of the Peace, former board member of the Fulton County Conservation District, member of Fulton and Izard County Coon Hunting Club, founding member of the National Farmers Organization of Fulton County, former member of Ozark Mountain Music Makers, and a member of the Salem Church of Christ.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Alma Elizabeth Hammond of Salem; a son, Johnny Hammond and wife, Joan, of Salem; three daughters -- Berta Kinder and husband, Lowell, of Bentonville, Ark., Jula Scott and husband, Joe, of West Plains, Mo., and Lora Aldridge and husband, Charles, of Sturkie, Ark.; a brother, Jack Hammond of West Plains; two sisters -- Iva Jean Williams of West Plains and Maxine Hall of Salem; twelve grandchildren -- Ron and Shelia Kinder, Steve and Robin Kinder, Richard and Tina Kinder, Linda and Kenny Rohrbach, Terry and Joyce Sanders, Tammy and Tom Papreck, Tina and Billy Collins, Tabitha and Russell Brotherton, Rhonda Hammond, Tonya and Donald Clements, Barry and Melodye Aldridge, and Stacy and Craig Henson; 24 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, George and Rachel Walker; a son-in-law Leon Sanders; granddaughter, Debra Kinder; two brothers Lester and Tony Hammond, and a sister, Lorene Mobley.

Funeral services were held Aug. 31, at the Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem, with Bro. David Gibson and Brien Hall officiating. Interment was in the Salem Cemetery at Salem, Ark., with arrangements under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Salem.

Pallbearers were Donald Clements, Richard Kinder, Barry Aldridge, Terry Sanders, Steve Kinder, and Ron Kinder.

Memorials preferred to Salem Cemetery Association or Children's Home of choice.
