On Sept. 12, 1954, Gale Dean Kersey and Joy Faye Tucker were united in marriage at Salem Church of Christ by Boyd Morgan. Their marriage was witnessed by Elbert Mitchell Jr. and Carolyn Tucker Bowman.
After their honeymoon in Mountain Home, Ark., the couple moved to Flint, Mich. In Flint, Gale worked at General Motors and Joy worked as a sales clerk.
On Oct. 17, 1956, they were blessed with their first child, Michael Dean Kersey. Their second child, Joy Michelle Kersey, was born Jan. 29, 1959.
Ready to return to the South, the young couple packed up their family in June 1959 and moved to Memphis, Tenn., where Gale began his work in the insurance business. They raised their children in Memphis and then retired back to their hometown of Salem in 1994.
They are the grandparents of six granddaughters -- Kimberly Michelle Kersey Owsley, 23, Kinsey Michelle Betts, 20, Sarah Jane Kersey, 19, Katie Brooke Betts, 18, Katylyn Bethany Kersey, 17, and Kamille Ashleigh Betts, 15.
The family of Gale and Joy Kersey will hold a come-and-go reception to honor and celebrate the 50 years of their marriage.
All friends and family are invited. The reception will be held at Salem Church of Christ Sept. 12 from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
The couple requests no gifts.
