The $48,000 deal includes a house with about 1,100 square feet sitting on one-half acre of land located across from the city park.
According to Oliver, the chamber hopes to make use of the house by revamping it as a tourist information center. The building will be used to promote business in Salem.
Oliver said the chamber will look for volunteers to man the center for chamber activities and to distribute literature and brochures on the area.
He added that he thinks it will be a benefit not only to the community but for businesses.
