THAYER/MAMMOTH SPRING -- Thayer Chamber of Commerce has announced a slight changed for this year's Christmas parade. The parade will start at Thayer High School at 2 p.m. Dec. 6 and follow the usual route until the parade line reaches Thayer Police Station. The parade line will turn at the station, continue to Vine Street and disburse.

According to chamber officials, floats will line up at 1:30 p.m. Buses will line up at the corner of Vine and Front streets to wait for the bands to transport band members.

Craig Schuster is this year's parade grand marshal.

The Mr. and Mrs. Merry Christmas contestants will be able to circle and come back downtown after the parade crowning ceremony.

The theme for this year's parade is "The Spirit of Christmas." Cash prizes will be awarded for the floats: $400 for first place, $75 for second place and $50 for third place.

Area residents are urged to register their floats, cars and horses for the parade by calling the chamber office at 264-7324 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Donna Steed at 264-7516 or Shawnie Lowther at 264-2754 in evenings for entry forms. Steed and Lowther are co-chairmen of the parade. The first six bands entered in the parade will receive $50.

The chamber is again sponsoring its house decorating contest. The first place winner will receive $50, second place $25 and third place $15. Houses will be judged and must be registered by Dec. 12 by calling 264-7324. The homes will be judged Dec. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. All winners will be announced in The SMN and on the radio.

The Mammoth Spring Christmas Parade will be Dec. 13. The theme for this years parade is "An Ozark Christmas."

The parade and other Christmas events will be sponsored by Mammoth Spring Chamber of Commerce.

The day will begin with a Christmas village where shoppers can visit their favorite stores and enjoy the Christmas Classic Car Show. From 1 to 2 p.m. there will be a Christmas carolers contest. McKeller's Fresh Produce will offer brownies; Radio Shack will offer candy canes and FNBC will offer hot chocolate free while supplies last.

The parade is set to start at 2 p.m.

The first place float will receive $75, second place $50 and third place $25. To register floats call FNBC at 625-0400. During the parade there will be a trophy awarded to the best decorated antique/classic car, horse and motorcycle.

A pizza party will be awarded to the best caroling group with 12 members or fewer. Carolers may register at Radio Shack by calling 625-3830. Contestants are asked to meet with Sunni Stevens in the mini mart at 12:30 p.m. for instructions.

Thophies and ribbons will be awarded in the car show. All vehicles will need to be registered to win. Call Richard Guest at 625-7001 to register.

In case of inclement weather the parade and all other events will be held Dec. 14 at the same time.
